Invested in our Community / Cruse Bereavement Care Norwich
Norwich & Central Norfolk Cruse Bereavement Care are a local charity who support the bereaved, offering sympathetic, compassionate and confidential one to one support via specially trained bereavement support volunteers. Often, people have nowhere to turn when someone close to them dies, and Cruse receive many referrals for their bereavement support sessions including from GPs. The Cruse volunteer will listen to anything their client wants to talk about to help them understand their feelings and the situation they are in. The sessions last for an hour, with up to six available, all free of charge – and Cruse can only exist due to donations towards the charity. In addition to the one to one support, the charity also offer the bereaved a telephone line, and a weekly social group at their Norwich base on St Augustine’s Street.
We supported Cruse Bereavement Care as one of our key charity partners from 2017 – 2020, helping to raise the profile of their important work in the community, and raise vital funds for the charity. We have attended several events together with Cruse including Porkstock at the Royal Norwich Showground, staff fundraising picnics in Chapelfield Garden and the Open Garden at the Bishop’s House, Norwich.
We held two Business Breakfast events – in 2019 and 2020, at the Assembly House on Theatre Street. At the events, the charity presented to a group of local professionals who had been invited to come along by Hatch Brenner and the charity. In addition to hearing directly from the charity on their crucial work, and how committed the team are in caring about and understanding the needs associated with bereavement; the event attendees heard directly from a bereavement support volunteer on the work they do with their clients, and why bereavement support is so important for each individual the charity supports.
