A focus on medical negligence claims affecting women

June 10 – 16 2019 is Cervical Screening Awareness Week, which aims to raise awareness of cervical cancer, and encourage as many women as possible to attend their cervical smears.

Cervical screening (smear test) is the best protection against cervical cancer; it detects pre-cancerous cells, allowing for them to be treated before they turn cancerous. Whilst there continues to be various campaigns to raise the awareness of smear tests, cervical screening rates are at their lowest in 20 years. According to NHS statistics a quarter of women in the UK either delay their smear test, or don’t turn up at all.

If diagnosed early, the chance of a cure is usually very good which means mistakes or delays in diagnosing cervical cancer can be devastating.

A cervical cancer medical negligence claim might be made in the following circumstances:

Along with claims arising from a delay in diagnosis or misdiagnosis of cervical cancer, there are also a number of other medical negligence claims that affect just women.

Our team understand that some women may find it difficult to discuss personal details with a solicitor when making a medical negligence claim. Sara Westwood is highly experienced at handling claims for women, and handles every case with sensitivity and compassion, whilst ensuring the very best possible outcome for her client.

There are many types of medical negligence that affect just women, including:

For many women, pregnancy and childbirth is a happy and positive experience. However, they are far from risk-free and things can go wrong for both mother and baby.

Complications can arise during pregnancy and birth injuries may occur when medical experts fail to perform procedures safely. The consequences of these can be devastating and in very serious cases may even result in death.

Obstetric and gynaecology claims are hugely personal for women and can often be distressing and complex. Women can suffer injuries from a number of different gynaecological treatments and the consequences of these can be long-lasting and devastating, with some women left incontinent or with irreversible damage to internal organs.

If you think you have a medical negligence case and wish to speak to a female solicitor about your claim, call Sara Westwood for a free, confidential consultation on 01603 660 811.
