A team from Theatre Street-based law firm Hatch Brenner will be joining others from the judiciary, law firms, chambers, government departments, and in-house legal teams in the city to do a 10k walk on 18 April raising money for free legal advice charities in Norwich and around the Eastern region.
The Norwich Legal Walk aims to celebrate the work of these vital charities and to help the vulnerable people they support.
The Eastern Legal Support Trust (“ELST”), who is coordinating the walk, commented: “For the poorest and the most vulnerable people in our community, access to justice is out of reach. The recession has increased poverty and reduced support services. Meanwhile, funding for advice services has reduced; particularly since the 2013 removal of much of legal aid for humanitarian or social welfare legal advice. So charity and philanthropy have increased in importance for supporting those in need. The Norwich Legal Walk raises essential funds to aid that cause.”
Christopher Cubitt, Hatch Brenner Partner and Head of the Property team added: “We are pleased to be able to support ELST in this charity walk around the city – as well as our contacts from the Norfolk and Norwich LawSociety and the Norfolk Community Law Service. With eight of our lawyers signed up, we have the biggest team registered to take part so far! It should be a great event.”
The walkers will set off from the Forum at 5.30pm on Monday 18 April.
