Norfolk youth charity MAP are calling on the public to put their best foot forward to support young people in Norfolk by taking part in a new community fundraising activity, the greatMAPwalk.
The greatMAPwalk which takes place over the course of the weekend of September 15th-16th 2018 has been designed to be as inclusive and adaptable as possible, enabling as many people as possible to take part. "People can walk where they want, for as far as they want, to suit their capabilities, location and commitments." explains MAP Fundraising Officer Katy Jones. “We are hoping that people will be inspired to organise group walks with friends and family, while the flexibility of the greatMAPwalk means people can also join in as part of their usual weekend routine, such as walking their dog. And as there are no restrictions on where you can walk, people will still be able to take part even if they are on holiday that weekend. We would love people to share their stories of where they will be walking and who with, especially if they have unusual or far-flung walking plans!’
To take part, people commit to doing a walk during the greatMAPwalk weekend and make a suggested minimum donation of £5 to MAP via http://uk.virginmoneygiving.co... or by texting GMWK£18£5 to 70070. Visit the MAP website https://www.map.uk.net/support... for more information about how to take part and other ways to get involved.
All the money raised from the greatMAPwalk will be used to help young people (age 11-25) in Norfolk get the counselling, advice, guidance and positive activities to support them in times of difficulty and to help them achieve their potential. MAP currently supports over 4,000 young people a year from their drop-in centres in Norwich and Great Yarmouth, through outreach work in schools and from bases in Kings Lynn, North Walsham and Attleborough. Demand for all of MAP’s services is increasing, with young people facing mounting pressures related to their education and employment, their relationships with family and peers; and from housing, homelessness and debt. The greatMAPwalk will help more young people get the support they need, when they need it.
The greatMAPwalk is supported by Hatch Brenner Solicitors of Theatre Street in Norwich.
