Spinal Injuries

Every eight hours someone’s life will change forever as a result of a spinal cord injury. In fact, there are an estimated 40,000 people in the UK living with a spinal cord injury.

If you or a loved one has suffered a serious back or spinal cord injury, your life will have changed completely. Spinal cord injuries can be caused by trauma and accidents including road traffic accidents, accidents at work and falls from height or illness, leading to paralysis or reduced mobility.

We have extensive experience in working with victims and their families to claim compensation. These funds can be used to pay for important services to support your recovery or help you with everyday living, including home adaptations, lost earnings, private healthcare, rehabilitation and transport.

What is spinal cord injury (SCI)?

The spinal cord is an extension of the brain made up of a thick bundle of nerves. The nerves carry messages from our brain to the rest of our body. These messages help us to move our body, feel pressure and control our breathing, blood pressure, bladder and bowels.

When the spinal cord is damaged, the communication between our brain and the rest of our body is disrupted, resulting in a loss of movement and sensation from below the level of injury including paraplegia and tetraplegia. The loss of movement and sensation will vary from person to person, even those who have damaged their spinal cord in the same place.

As the spinal cord recovers from the shock of the injury, and with the help of the right rehabilitation and support, an individual with a spinal injury can reach their full potential with regard to movement and/or sensation following. Progress and adaptation are possible but it may take several years.

How we can help

Our solicitors can guide you sensitively through this period of uncertainty and help you recover the appropriate amount of compensation in relation to your spinal cord injury in order to safeguard your financial future.

Having the right spinal injury solicitor to handle your claim can make a world of difference in both the short and long term. From the earliest stages of a case, at Hatch Brenner, we consider the care, treatment and rehabilitation that a person is receiving. We will liaise with their family to see what we may be able to do to help; often appointing a case manager.

In the long term, we leave no stone unturned when it comes to getting the right expert evidence to ensure that you receive the compensation you deserve. Invariably, your compensation needs to take into account a wide range of factors including adapting your home, long-term care costs and loss of earnings and pension.

Our team of expert spinal injury solicitors draw on many years of experience to know the right level of compensation for your case. We have a reputation for being fair, knowledgeable and tough negotiators when it counts.
