Equality and Discrimination
Equality in the workplace is increasingly important, not least because of the effect it can have upon an individual.
You must ensure that your employees are not treated differently or disadvantaged at work because of:
- age;
- gender;
- sexual orientation;
- race;
- religion or belief;
- disability;
- pregnancy or maternity;
- marriage or civil partnership; or
- gender reassignment.
You are also responsible for ensuring that your employees do not discriminate against one another in the course of their duties. A failure to do so can result in significant costs for you, not least because of compensation that can be awarded if an employee makes a claim.

Carefully worded policies are a great starting point, but if you are in any doubt or have received a complaint of possible discrimination, we can advise what action you should take and how to avoid a claim.
