Hatch Brenner Tea for Breast Cancer Now and Survivor’s Journey

In Easter 2022, Carol had a life-changing experience when she discovered a lump in her right breast while getting ready for bed. Carol confessed that she had not been diligent in regularly examining her breasts.

“I can’t stress enough how important it is to take just a few minutes out of your day to complete this task.
It has the potential to truly save lives”

Carol was in a state of despair, feeling lost and unsure of how to proceed. She was overwhelmed with disbelief upon discovering a lump. She spent that night feeling and re-feeling the lump.

I must say, it was a truly eye-opening experience. It was truly a remarkable experience”.

Carol, a remarkable mother, has three beautiful children. with her youngest child, who courageously triumphed cancer in 2021.

“They provided me with incredible support and went above and beyond to ease my concerns, constantly reminding me not to stress until I had all the necessary information”.

Carol’s proactive decision to reach out to the doctors set off a remarkable series of tests, biopsies, scans, and mammograms. When Carol received the news about her triple-negative tumour in her right breast, she wasted no time in taking action. She immediately embarked on her treatment journey, determined to overcome any obstacles that came her way. It appears that women under the age of 40 and those of Afro-Caribbean descent are more likely than others to have triple-negative cancers.

“I must say, I definitely defied that trend”.

Triple-negative tumours have a reputation for being extremely aggressive and challenging to manage.

Carol’s journey with chemotherapy began just two days after celebrating her 60th birthday. She had imagined celebrating her 60th in the Maldives, sipping cocktails from young men in skimpy clothing while swinging on a hammock on the beach. Instead, she found herself in the Oncology Ward at the N&N receiving chemotherapy. Her dream 60th was not quite what she had envisioned.

Carol’s journey was filled with determination and strength. She bravely underwent six rounds of chemotherapy, preparing herself for the planned surgery that would mark the final step in her battle against the lingering lump in her breast.

She went to the hospital in November for her scheduled surgery. Carol had decided on a D-flap. She will essentially undergo a lumpectomy and concomitant reconstruction. On the day, Carol underwent a series of tests and examinations. Despite already being aware of the situation, she received confirmation that the lump had not shown any signs of shrinking and remained quite firm.  Unfortunately, Carol’s planned surgery was unable to proceed as scheduled. However, just moments before her surgery was set to begin, she received the recommendation to undergo a mastectomy.   Carol underwent a mastectomy of her right breast and now openly wears a prosthesis.

Carol is eagerly looking forward to her reconstructive surgery, which she will be able to undergo two years after her mastectomy.

“Let me tell you, the procedure involves using fat from my tummy to create my new breast”

Every cloud has a silver lining”.

Hatch Brenner has been just wonderful.  Each time I walk through the door, I am greeted with warm smiles and a genuine concern for my well-being. I must say, the firm has been incredibly supportive. I have never felt left out of anything, not even the summer barbeque“.

“I am extremely grateful to the partners for their unwavering support. I am delighted to share that I have never experienced any pressure to return to work earlier than I am comfortable with. I just wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude”.
