Managing Partner and Personal Injury Specialist Solicitor, Colin Cook, recovered compensation for a client who received multiple injuries as a result of a road traffic accident.
The car accident
Our client was driving to visit a customer on a road she travelled often and knew well. At a section of the route where the road narrows at a blind bend, our client was faced with the defendant coming round the corner on the wrong side of the road. This pushed our client onto the bank at approximately 8:30 am.
Two passers-by called emergency services. Firefighters took 45 minutes to cut her out of her vehicle. She was transported to hospital, arriving at midday.
The Aftermath of the crash
Spending six days in hospital, our client had suffered from multiple broken bones (including her spine) and an open fracture. She underwent several MRIs and X-rays with the consultant stating that she would heal naturally.
Unfortunately, she was left with severe thoracic pain, back pain, pain in her feet and a chipped bone in her left hand. She also received a head injury during the collision which left her with dizziness, a loss of balance, motion sickness and sound sensitivity.
The case and settlement
The Defendant’s insurers disputed that our client had suffered a head injury and memory loss following the accident. Colin Cook is an expert in handling mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and post-traumatic amnesia cases. He advised the defendant’s insurers the claimant was receiving rehabilitative treatment for her symptoms caused by the head injury.
Colin negotiated a settlement resulting in an award of £85,000 for the client.
