Heart Surgery and Cardiology

The results of heart surgery are mostly positive, but there are many risks associated with it. When things go wrong, the consequences can be catastrophic.

Our solicitors have the experience and expertise to help those affected by negligent medical treatment.

With heart and circulatory disease killing more than one in four people in the UK, a large number of individuals require medical treatment to deal with a broad range of conditions that are both hereditary and lifestyle-based. Conditions such as cardiomyopathy, coronary heart disease and abnormal heart rhythms are very common.

In many cases, surgery is carried out at short notice in emergency situations. However, even when surgery is planned, complications can arise.

If you or a loved one have concerns over how your heart problems have been dealt with by medical practitioners, you may be able to make a cardiology claim.

Examples of heart surgery and cardiology claims:

  • Misdiagnosis and mistreatment of heart attacks
  • Negligent heart surgery
  • Failure of pacemaker/ICD
  • Failure to refer to a heart specialist
  • Poor post-surgery care
  • Death arising from negligent heart surgery – including representation at an Inquest
  • Failure to correctly diagnose specific heart conditions
  • Medication errors relating to heart conditions

Heart/Cardiac Surgery Case Studies

Bypass Surgery

Mrs W had heart bypass surgery. Due to negligence in her surgery and care, she developed an infection which became so severe she required major chest surgery and skin grafting. Her claim settled for £70,000.

Heart Attack

Mr L developed chest pains. He was taken to A&E and misdiagnosed with acid reflux when in fact he had suffered a heart attack. The misdiagnosis meant he missed out on treatment which would have prevented a second more severe attack. His claim was settled for £75,000.
